Here are some of the key events in Telepress' first three decades:
1976 – Telepress is founded under the name Realty Supply. As the name implies, we specialize in supplying printed materials to the real estate industry. We share a building with "John the Plumber" – and our restroom with the disco next door.
Early 1980s – We become convinced there is a real need for a printer that can meet the needs of large companies through uncompromising customer service. We change our name to Telepress – since at this point in time all orders come in over the phone – and begin to diversify into other industries. In short order, we are serving several customers from the Fortune 500.
We learn that the overwhelming majority of our customers expect us to have strong control of their corporate identity. We set up processes and procedures – and over time develop the ability to diplomatically enforce the standards with the people actually ordering the cards.
During this decade, we steadily acquire a reputation for effectively protecting corporate identity. We refine early processes, pioneer new ways of doing things. We focus on removing overhead to offer our customers the best value possible. In 1982 the entire moves operation to a larger facility in Issaquah, WA.
1990 – The entire operation moves again to a larger building that we now own in order to accommodate our growth. Telepress is headquartered here for the next 15 years.
1998 – It is evident that the internet is the wave of the future in terms of B2B commerce. We are one of the first brick and mortar printing companies to develop an ordering system that allows customers to place stationery orders online. This enables us to meet the growing demand for ease and efficiency that our customers expect when doing business with us.
2000 – Our growth necessitates relocating our production facilities into a separate facility in nearby Kent, WA. This is the year we also acquire a second printing plant in Lawrenceville, Georgia – near Atlanta. Dual facilities provide the opportunity for faster turnaround times and lower freight costs to our customers.
2006 – The entire Northwest operation gets back together under one roof in Kent, WA. We maintain our bi-coastal presence as well as consolidating the Administration with the Operations Leadership Team. This streamlines communication, improves IT support, and helps facilitate more frequent and comprehensive strategic planning for improved customer programs in the future.
2007 – Our President, Terry Deschenes, retires after 30 years as a Telepress executive. His contribution in building and growing this company during his tenure has been invaluable.
A new era begins under his successor, Darren Loken, who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience realized through 2 decades spent galvanizing other regional and national printing companies. Darren’s unique, powerful vision and hands-on leadership style guarantee growth and ensure delighted Telepress customers, as we continue to add value to our programs, simplify the order process and perpetually raise the bar for excellent service.
